Our Shot: April 30, 2025

Welcome to the fourth edition of Our Shot, a weekly newsletter of actions that anyone (especially kids) can take to resist the Trump administration.

Smaller action: Take a moment to learn about Venezuela, a country that has been particularly targeted by the Trump administration's immigration policies. The language used to described immigrants from Venezuela has been entirely negative and dehumanizing, so we want to fight back by appreciating and learning about its culture.

Find an artist, listen to music, read, poetry, or try food from Venezuela - comment or email us with what you find so that we can share it in the next newsletter!

Larger action: Write a letter to your members of Congress to oppose efforts to cut federal funding for public media.

The Trump administration plans to call on Congress this week to eliminate previously approved funding for public media. This funding supports the services of 1,500+ locally operated public radio and television services nationwide, including educational content and resources. Millions of Americans rely on public media for local news, emergency alerts, lifelong learning, and cultural enrichment. If you have a favorite PBS Kids show (we loved Daniel Tiger and Wild Kratts), or have learned something from listening to NPR on the radio, you have benefited from public media!

Let your federal representatives know that you support public media! In your letter, include your name and where you live, and as much detail as you can about what public media means to you and your family. You can find more tips for writing to your representatives here.

Thank you to our subscriber Nathan for bringing this to our attention!

Do you have any ideas for actions people can take? Have you taken an action of resistance that you would like to share? Please email ctsvirsky@gmail.com to let us know - we would love to hear from you!

We are not throwing away our shot!

Leo & Charlotte

Shout outs this week to Leo's grandfather (Opa Felix) for riding his bike to work instead of driving, and to our State Representative Steve Owens for hosting an Earth Day cleanup along the Charles River!
