Our Shot: August 20, 2025
Welcome to the 19th edition of Our Shot, a weekly newsletter of actions that anyone (especially kids) can take to resist the Trump administration.
Before we share this week's actions, we are looking for a guest writer for next week's newsletter! We will be out of town and taking some time off, so would love for someone (adult or kid, or people working together) to write next week. Please reach out if you are interested - ctsvirsky@gmail.com.
Smaller action: Celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day!
August 24 is Ukrainian Independence Day, the anniversary of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the significance of this holiday has increased both within Ukraine and internationally. This Saturday, take a moment to stand in solidarity with Ukraine - particularly as the Trump administration refuses to do so - and celebrate Ukrainian independence. Hang a flag, attend a local celebration, listen to the Ukrainian anthem, or display some sunflowers 🌻
Larger action: Donate fresh vegetables to a local community fridge or food bank.
The wholesale price of vegetables shot up by 38% this July, an increase that is largely due to a combination of Trump's tariffs and mass deportation and raids. Those cost increases are likely to be passed on to consumers, if they haven't already, making it even harder for families to get access to fresh vegetables.
Donate fresh vegetables directly, or make a donation to a local organization providing produce in your community.

Do you have any ideas for actions people can take? Have you taken an action of resistance that you would like to share? Please email ctsvirsky@gmail.com to let us know - we would love to hear from you!
We are not throwing away our shot!
